MangoMania Not Being Held in 2020.

Jennifer Jennings, Director of the The Greater Pine Island Chamber handed in her resignation effective 6-2-20. Jennings was director for ten years and also chaired the event MangoMania.

MangoMania which would normally be scheduled for the end of July has not been promoted and will not be held for 2020, ostensibly due to the wuhan virus.

MPIFCD Assists Collier Brush Fire Teams

Matlacha-Pine Island Fire District posts on their Facebook page May 15, 2020 at approximately 10:50 AM.
"Last night, MPIFCD firefighters joined a five engine strike team with reserve Engine 150 to assist with the brush fires in Collier County. They worked tirelessly through the nigh from 8pm-9am. Excellent work, Knight, Russ, and Robertson!"

Hoarders and Looters Should Be Dealt With Harshly

There was a rumor that off-island people, even other county residents, were "raiding" Pine Island's Winn-Dixie. It was suggested that this was a organized effort and not just an accident.
There is no way to tell if, or how much, was true. However, there is no doubt that it is true to some extent.

This IS a declared epidemic emergency situation. Winn-Dixie needs to begin a "no-hoard" policy: 1) One must show a Pine Island residency with name. 2) 1 bulk item or no bulk items. 3) No more the two regular size items of a particular category.

Traffic Backs Up for Miles


Traffic backed up all the was to Pine Center to the west and to Burnt Store Rd. to the east on Jan., 13th, 2020. The average wait was 45 minutes to as much as over an hour for cars to get through Matlacha in either direction.

7-Eleven Grand Opening

I had the long awaited 7-11 opening marked on my calendar for Sept. 12, 2019. Although the opening started at 6 AM, I decided to go about 10:30 to avoid the early morning rush. As I pulled in coming from the back through Nicki Drive, the place was packed.

Three Vehicle Crash Near Villas

On June 26th around 5:50PM. Pine Island-Matlacha Fire Department and EMT’s were called to the scene of a three vehicle accident with injuries at North Stringfellow Road in front of the Villas about a mile from Pine Island Center in Bokeelia. The Honda had rear-end damage.

It's All About The Mango

Mark your calendars for July 13th and 14th as the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce will host the 24th Annual MangoMania Tropical Fruit Festival. The event will be held at the German American Social Club, at 2101 Pine Island Road, Cape Coral.
